Fixed Hydraulic Cup Hinge Soft Close Cabinet Door F829G

F829G
F829G is a concealed hydraulic cup hinge with a screw fixed, non detachable joint, made for kitchen, bathroom, rental and retail cabinet doors that are hung once and left in place. The arm is fastened to the mounting plate and is not released by hand, so the joint cannot work open in service, there is no clip or catch to fatigue, and the door comes off only when those screws are undone. A sealed damper works inside the arm and meters only the last part of the closing arc, so the door swings freely and then eases home instead of dropping shut, and the damped element is visible along the arm so the soft close version can be confirmed on the bench without taking anything apart. Pressed steel with a plated finish for interior furniture, adjusted at the plate fixing holes rather than by packing behind the hinge, supplied assembled. Boring data, overlay and hinge count per door are issued with the quotation.

Hydraulic cup hinge · fixed (non clip on) fixing · soft close door for kitchens, bathrooms and retail furniture

Product Overview

F829G fixed hydraulic cabinet hinge with soft close and screw fixed plate

TheF829G hinge is the fixed member of this hydraulic hinge family. Fixed describes how the hinge is joined to its mounting plate: the arm is screwed down and stays screwed down. It is not released by hand and it does not clip back on. The door is hung by driving screws, and the door comes off by taking those screws out. For many furniture makers that is exactly what they want, because a hinge that cannot be unclipped cannot be unclipped by accident in service.

Closing is hydraulic. A damper works inside the arm and takes over only near the end of the swing, so the door turns freely through most of its travel and then arrives under control instead of dropping shut under its own weight. The damped element is visible along the arm of this hinge, which means a buyer can confirm on the bench, without disassembly, that the hinge in front of them is the soft close version rather than the plain one.

This page describes the hinge as it is supplied: assembled, plated, damped and ready for boring. Dimensional drawings, the boring template data and the test results for the specific batch are issued with the quotation, because the figures that matter depend on the version you order and we would rather send you a drawing than a paragraph of approximate numbers.

What A Fixed Hinge Means On The Bench

The alternative to a fixed hinge in this family is a detachable hinge, where the arm pulls out of the plate and pushes back in. Both designs carry the same door the same way once the screws are in. The difference is entirely about how the joint is made and broken.

A fixed hinge gives you three practical things. The joint cannot work loose, because there is no release mechanism to work loose. The hardware is simpler, because there is no clip, no catch and no spring to fatigue in the plate. And the cost is lower per hinge, because there are fewer parts to make and assemble. What you give up is speed on site: whoever has to remove a door will need a driver, and the screw heads must be left accessible at the time of fitting rather than buried.

Where a fixed hinge is normally chosen: factory assembled doors and carcasses that leave the workshop already hung, rental and contract furniture where a door should not be removable by the occupant, low maintenance public joinery, and any application where the buyer would rather pay for a simpler joint than for the ability to release it.

How The Hydraulic Close Behaves

The damper is not a brake across the whole swing. Through the first part of the arc the hinge turns at normal effort and the door moves as fast as you push it. Near the closing end the damped section engages and the last portion of the travel is metered, so the door slows and eases home. Two consequences matter when the furniture is being designed:

Effort to open. A damped hinge has to be pulled against the damper at the start of the swing. On a heavy door with a tight seal the pull is noticeable, and it is larger when several hinges are fitted to one door than buyers expect. Count the hinges on the heaviest door in the range and try that door before signing off the hinge.

Closing speed is temperature dependent. Hydraulic fluid thickens in the cold. A door that closes correctly in a warm workshop can close noticeably slower in a cold warehouse or a winter showroom. If the furniture ships to a cold climate, test a sample hinge at the low end of the expected service range rather than assuming the workshop result transfers.

Key Features

  • Fixed screw joint. The arm is fastened to the plate and is not designed to be released by hand, so the joint cannot open itself in service.
  • Visible damper. The damped element can be seen along the arm, so the soft close version is identifiable without taking anything apart.
  • Soft close action. Only the last part of the closing arc is metered; the door swings freely and arrives under control.
  • Concealed mounting. With the door closed, the hinge sits inside the cabinet and only the cup is visible in the door.
  • Pressed steel with a plated finish. Built for interior furniture use.
  • Adjustment at the plate. Alignment is made at the fixing holes, which is the only place a hinge should ever be packed or shifted.
  • Supplied assembled. Hinge, arm and plate arrive as one unit; no on site assembly of the hinge itself is needed.

Overlay And Cup

The hinge carries the door relative to the carcass in one of three ways: the door overlaps the carcase fully, overlaps it partly, or sits inside the frame. Which of these a given hinge version gives you is a property of the arm shape, not of how the fitter feels on the day, and it must be chosen before the boring is cut. Ordering the wrong overlay is the most expensive hinge mistake in furniture production because the door is already drilled.

The cup is the other dimension that has to be right before boring. Cup diameter and cup depth are set by the boring tool, and the tool is set by the drawing. Ask us for the boring drawing with the drill specification for the version you intend to order, and confirm the tool setting against a first article door rather than against a catalogue image of this hinge.

Fitting This Hinge

F829G soft close cabinet hinges laid out before fitting to cabinet doors

Step one: set the boring. Before a hinge goes anywhere near a door, the boring position is set from the drawing for the version ordered. Cup diameter, cup depth and the distance from the door edge are fixed by that drawing, and the first article door should be checked against it before the run starts. A hinge that is bored in the wrong place cannot be corrected by packing, re drilling or improvisation.

Step two: fasten the plate. With a fixed hinge the plate is screwed to the carcase wall and that is the last time the joint is opened. Position the plate so the door sits at the intended overlay once the screws are home. Do not spread the load by packing behind the hinge to make an awkward door fit; packing behind a hinge changes the geometry that the hinge was designed around.

Step three: attach the arm. Drive the screws into the door with the hinge held at the intended setting. On a fixed hinge this is the moment where the whole alignment decision is committed, so it is worth a second pair of hands or a jig on a production line.

Step four: check the close. Cycle the door. It should swing freely, then slow and ease home without banging and without stopping short. A door that stops short is usually carrying too much load for the number of hinges, or the plate is pulling the door out of the intended overlay.

Adjusting After Fitting

Adjustment on this hinge is made where the hinge meets the plate, at the fixing holes. Slack at those holes is what allows the door to be moved in and out and side to side before the screws are finally tightened. That is the intended route for correction.

Anything done outside those holes causes trouble later. Packing behind the hinge body to force a door into line changes the relationship between the cup, the arm and the carcase, and the door will drift back. Bending the arm to correct an overlay error fatigues the hinge and can disturb the damped section. If the door cannot be brought into line using the adjustment available at the fixing holes, the boring or the plate position is wrong and that is what should be corrected.

Choosing Within This Hinge Family

Buyers usually compare this hinge against two close relatives. Against the detachable version, the choice is entirely about whether the door has to come off without a driver: specify the detachable hinge for retail fitting out, cleaning intensive joinery and any site where doors are removed routinely, and keep this fixed version where the door is hung once and left. Against the plain non damped version of the same arm, the choice is whether the door should be metered at the end of the swing; on a soft closing kitchen range there is rarely a reason to fit a undamped hinge, and the damper is the part buyers ask us about most.

If you are standardising a range across two hinges, tell us which models you are comparing and we will confirm the boring data for both so the same door drilling works for either. That question is worth asking before the first production run rather than after.

Hinge Count Per Door

The number of hinges on a door is set by door height and door weight together, and it is the specification item most often under ordered. Heavier doors need more hinges to hold them without sag, and every hinge added increases the pull needed to open a damped door. On a tall, heavy door fitted with several hydraulic hinges the combined damping is real and the customer will feel it.

Send us the door height, the board thickness, the material and the finished door mass, and we will state the hinge count we would fit ourselves on those dimensions. That answer comes from our own line experience and it is free to ask for, which is why we would rather give it than publish a generic table that ignores your door.

What To Check On A Hinge Sample

Five checks on one sample hinge will tell a buyer more about a batch than any specification sheet. First, look along the arm and confirm the damped element is present and undamaged, since that is what you are paying for. Second, screw the hinge to a scrap board and cycle the door by hand; feel where the damper engages and whether the door eases home or stops short. Third, open the door and note the pull needed to break the damping at the start of the swing, which should be firm but not reluctant. Fourth, examine the plating on the cup edge and inside the knuckle, where thin plating shows first. Fifth, undo the screws and look at the screw seats and the plate; a fixed hinge should show clean, undistorted fixing holes with no burrs that would force a screw head to sit proud.

Our Factory And How We Supply

Gorgeous factory production lines for cabinet hinge and furniture hardware manufacturing

We manufacture furniture and architectural hardware, cabinet hinges among it, and we supply wholesale buyers rather than retail shoppers. That shapes how this hinge is offered: the drawings are issued on request against your version, the boring data is confirmed with you before production, and the packing is built around your container rather than around a shelf pack.

Gorgeous quality control inspection of hydraulic cabinet hinge batches before shipment

Quality control on a hinge batch is done on the same checks listed above, on hinges taken from the finished production rather than from a pre production reference sample. Damper function, plating, fixing hole condition and the appearance of the arm are inspected before packing, and the inspection result for your order travels with the order.

Gorgeous warehouse and packing area for bulk furniture hinge orders

Packing is arranged to the buyer's requirement: bulk packed for a furniture factory that will feed hinges straight into door assembly, or boxed for a distributor who has to shelf the item. Tell us which and the packing detail goes on the invoice as a specification rather than an assumption.

Gorgeous hardware testing equipment used for hinge durability and cycle testing

Where a buyer needs cycle or durability data for a specific hinge version we test that version and send the report. We do not attach a certificate to a hinge it was never issued for, which is why the test sheet that comes with your quotation names the model on your order.

Gorgeous export shipment loading for furniture hardware and cabinet hinge orders

Export orders ship from China against your own freight arrangement or ours, and mixed loads across hinge models and other furniture hardware are normal for us. Buyers who standardise on two or three hinge codes across a whole kitchen range usually get a better landed cost than buyers who order one hinge at a time, and we can quote either way.

Common Faults And What Causes Them

  • Door does not close fully. Usually too much damping for the door weight, or the plate pulling the door out of overlay. Add or reduce hinge count, then check the plate.
  • Door bangs shut. The hinge is the undamped version, or the damped section has failed. Confirm the damper is present along the arm.
  • Door sags over time. Too few hinges for the door mass, or screws driven into weak board. Fix the count and the fixing, not the hinge.
  • Screw heads sit proud. Burr in the fixing hole or an over large screw head. This is a hinge or screw specification fault and we want to hear about it.
  • Door will not align. Boring out of position. Correct the boring; never pack behind the hinge body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the door be removed without unscrewing it? No. This is the fixed version; the arm is screwed to the plate. If you need tool free removal, ask us for the detachable member of the family.

How do I know the hinge I received is soft close? Look along the arm. The damped element is visible from outside, and you can feel it when you cycle the hinge by hand.

Is this hinge suitable for a wet bathroom? It is a plated steel hinge for interior furniture. For a high humidity environment ask us about the stainless options rather than assuming the plated version will behave the same after years of moisture.

Can you put our own mark on the hinge and the packing? Yes, for wholesale quantities. Send the artwork with the enquiry so the tooling or printing route is decided before the run.

Do you supply the screws? To your specification. State the screw size and finish you use and we quote the hinge with them.

Ordering And Quotation

To quote the F829G hinge we need the version details (overlay and arm type), the board thickness and finished door mass of your heaviest door, the quantity you want per door, the packing you require and the destination. Send those with the enquiry and you get a drawing, a hinge count recommendation and a price for the same hinge, on the same day we see it.
